THX and Dolby have combined forces to get Dolby Digital Surround·EX. This is basically 6.1 surround sound as apposed to Dolby Digital 5.1. (NB: THX is not a surround standard, it is a quality assurance thingy ne bob). If you have a Dolby ProLogic system you will know that you have 3 forward speakers.

If you don't have 5.1 with xbox GET THIS RIGHT NOW!!
The receiver will work out if sounds should be between the front left and surround monopole left and place these sounds on the left dipole, to avoid an acoustic "hole" along that long wall, You may even prefer monopoles as the sides for 5.1, but that's something you'll have to listen to before deciding.
